Oh, good grief. That thing I was talking about? Militant non-smokers who won't be happy until the only place one can smoke is in an airtight Plexiglas booth in the basement of one's own home? Yes. That.
Those bits of advice at the end of the article are common sense, yes. But for fuck's sake, calling the accidental sniffing of someone else's cigarette "involuntary smoking?" That's just silly.
If someone is smoking near you and there's not a "no smoking" sign around, MOVE. Walk away from the smoker on the street. Don't walk through the designated smoking area. Don't sit so close to the smoking section next time or, even better, eat at restaurants without them, thx, bai. Nobody is forcing you to follow smokers around and inhale their secondhand smoke. MOVE THE FUCK AWAY FROM THEM.
Naturally, if there is a "no smoking" sign, you are well within your rights to tell the inconsiderate ass to put the damn thing out.
Car exhaust, chemical plants, burning trash--all this shit is just as nasty as secondhand smoke, if not nastier, and there's a lot more of it. Why aren't people whining about those?
If you don't like smoke, stay out of places where smoking is allowed. Yes, it really is that goddamn simple. If the merest whiff of cigarette smoke from fifty feet away makes you choke and gasp (for real, not that fake "eww eww eww" gagging and handflapping you usually see) you probably need to be living in a plastic bubble.
(oh, by the way? non-smoker, one month, thank you.)
